چکیده

The adsorption of plutoniurn-23 7, added from an acid solution, by two species of marine phytoplankton, MOTIOchrysis luLheri Droop, a flagellated chrysomonad, and Phaeodactylutn tricornutum Bohlin, a diatom, is governed by a passive mechanism. This is clearly indicated by the observation that the rapid rates of sorption were not significantly different for live and heat-killed cells incubated at 24° C and 0° C. The Qjo values for the chrysomonad and the diatom of 0.95 and 1.18, respectively, are indicative of passive processes. The average ratio of (activity on algae/ activity infiltrate) per unit volume at 24 h, the time when maximum levels of algal radioactivity were attained, of (32 ±4) X 1(P was not significantly different for the diatom or the chrysomonad. On a per cell basis, maximum levels of radioactivity were attained within 2 h. Less than 20% ofthe adsorbed ^^^Pu clesorbed after 24 h. Phytoplankton Community and Physical-Chemical Characteristics of Seawater in the Bandar Abbas Coastal Water, Persian Gulf: An Environmental and Process Perspective

Seawater ecosystems are controlled by multitude various abiotic and biotic factors. These factors also affect the activities of coastal human communities and installations including coastal desalination plants. This research investigated a point environmental (physical and chemical) and biological (phytoplankton) parameters of Bandar Abbas coastal water in 3 depth layers of 1, 5 and 10 m carrie...

bioaccumulation in marine birds

The aim of this work was the determination of Po, U, U, Pu and Pu concentration in marine birds which permanently or temporally live in the southern Baltic Sea coast. We chose 11 species of seabirds: three species permanently residing at southern Baltic Sea, four species of wintering birds and three species of migrating birds. The results show that analyzed radionuclides are non-uniformly distr...

Quantitative (Chlorophyll-a) and qualitative (species composition) seasonal fluctuations of phytoplankton in Lavan coastal waters (North of the Persian Gulf)

Phytoplankton species composition as well as amount of Chlorophyll-a and their relation to physico-chemical parameters were studied. The samples were collected monthly from October 1996 until September 1997 in two stations, i.e. Lavan and Douberkeh coastal waters. In this study, 65 phytoplankton species related to 3 groups of diatoms, dinoflagellats and Blue-Green Algae (24 genus and 44 species...
